Why ASL

American Sign Language (ASL) was chosen as the method of manual communication for this video for several reasons. It is an established language that is standardized. It is the 3rd most widely used language in America and will increase awareness of the culture of the deaf community. It allows parents to be consistent and uniform in their signs. After familiarity with ASL bas been established, a further personalized manual communication is encouraged, allowing parent and children to develop and use signs pertinent to their own environment.
